Who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re going.
The International Union for Social Responsibility in three parts: how it was founded, the vision that guides it, and the purpose it works toward every day.
Establishment of the union
The International Union for Social Responsibility was established to encourage, develop, and assist the responsible practices of government, non-government and private sectors and the community — through promoting the best professional practices, and introducing positive models for the application of social responsibility in line with global standards. This initiative is the first of its kind worldwide: a union that hosts specialized entities related to the field of social responsibility — private, government, non-government or community — under one umbrella.
Vision & mission
To urge government and private organizations around the world to join in promoting social responsibility, by enhancing their active community role through universal methodology standards that account for responsible environmental, economic and social regulations.
Through institutional capability-building programs, specialized consulting, and research on the applications of social responsibility — achieved by partnering with specialized United Nations agencies and major international organizations.
To deliver international-standard social responsibility practices to member organizations — integrating social responsibility principles into their business models and providing the mechanisms and skills needed to strengthen their role in their communities.
To be a platform for collaboration and a catalyst for innovation, building sustainable, inclusive and socially conscious communities, and a globally recognized network engaging worldwide organizations on the social responsibility agenda.
Purpose & objectives
26000
Operating under ISO 26000 guidance. The Union operates under the international standard guidance of social responsibility — adding value to existing initiatives by providing harmonized, globally relevant guidance based on international consensus among expert representative groups, and encouraging the implementation of best practice in social responsibility worldwide.
